A menstrual cup! Okay, if you were like me and thought. "Um no!" When you first saw this. I totally don't blame you. My first reaction to an invention that was first made in the 1930's COMPLETELY had me worried. There was NO string like a tampon and in my head I thought of one embarrassing visit to the Gyno and me having to say, "There's a menstrual cup inside me!" But after being sent this to me by theDivaCup, my views have totally changed.
WHAT IT CAME WITH:
- A Diva Cup
-Cute little pouch to store your Diva Cup
- And of course instructions.
SIZES:
Yes there is sizes when it comes to the Diva Cup!
Model 1:For women under 30 years old who have never delivered vaginally or by Cesarean section.
Model 2: For women over 30 years old and/or for women who have delivered vaginally or by Cesarean section.
Since I am UNDER 30 and NEVER have had a baby *Looks around to make sure, yeah I'm cool* I was given model 1
The difference between the two are Model 2 is a tad bit bigger, not a lot, but a tad!
UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH THE DIVA CUP:
Between tampons and other sanitary products , it can get pricey! I know I spend a good $20 every two months for sanitary napkins and tampons! The Diva Cup ends that problem for the most part! According to the website it's latex-free, BPA-free, and plastic-free. It can be worn up to 12 hours SAFELY! It's clean, convenient, east to use, reliable, and comfortable.
HOW TO USE THE DIVA CUP!
Prior to using the Diva Cup, you wanna wash it with warm water for 15-20seconds then fold it. I fold it twice.
1. Pressing it down
2. Folding it into a "U" shape
INSERTION
Relax your vaginal muscles (Trust me, when you are tense it wont go in smoothly and it may be painful. You know how the Gyno always says to relax, well RELAX while inserting the Diva Cup), gently separate your labia with your free hand and then push the curved edge of the folded DivaCup into you vaginal opening. I demonstrated using my facet as a vagina! Don't laugh. I cant show you guys personally so I had to make use of a pretend one!
I wanna add in, as a woman, make sure you know your vagina. Find your cervix prior to this and it will be a much smoother ride!
LET IT SET, FLOW & DON'T WORRY!
The Diva Cup will expand and collect your menstrual waste. I used it while I was heavy and I emptied my HEAVY flow, about every 5 hours. On a lighter flow, I left it in all 12 hours. I couldn't feel it AT ALL!
EMPTY IT OUT
I'll be honest, at one point I freaked and thought it got lost in. However all I had to do was RELAX!
According to the website to remove the Diva Cup, "Wash your hands well with warm water and soap. Rinse. Pull gently on the stem until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base of the cup to release the seal and continue to pull down to remove. The contents should not spill during removal. Simply empty the contents in the toilet, wash it well with warm, soapy water, and reinsert."
I also had to push a tad.
So want the pros and cons? Here we go!
PROS!
- No need to carry tampons around
-No need to wrap up what you don't want seen in the trashcan
-Safe silicone
-Unlike a tampon, there is no cord to rip
- It did prevent odors!
-Can be reused by simple washing it and placed back in its pretty little pouch
-Comfortable, I even forgot it was there!
-Easy to insert and remove after the first use and you get used to it!
CONS!
-Okay I'll be honest, removing it while on a heavy flow was a tad messy. Grossed me out a little. And was a tad bit embarrassing if you are in a bathroom with MANY stalls. I think its better if removed in a private bathroom that only has ONE toilet just in case.
Yep that's the only con!
DO I RECOMMEND IT?
Yes! It's affordable and comfortable!
